A talk with SaveBiking - App for green mobility

Green mobility can change cities and the quality of life.

In this interview, we had the pleasure to talk with SaveBiking, a start-up accelerated by STEP Tech Park. By using SaveBiking app you stay fit, you contribute to improving the quality of the air we breathe and you have a valuable social impact for everyone.

Hi Guys, can you tell our community how the idea of ​​SaveBiking was born?

While riding the bicycle, we realized how green mobility is not actively promoted by the media and supported by adequate infrastructures, but above all, we realized the lack of effective tools to encourage healthy and ecological mobility.

This is why we have developed an app that encourages and promotes the use of sustainable transportation with a great social impact.

We started with the bicycle because it gathers very passionate urban, sporting, and tourist communities and it is the healthiest, most ecological as well as efficient vehicle to move around the city.

SaveBiking was born in Verona, by Pietro, but at the same time an equivalent concept grew in Varese, by Nicolas, and then we merged the ideas. Later on, Alessandro and Gaia joined the team to take care of the communication and Pier for the design, accepting this challenge and helping to reduce CO2 emissions. Lately, Michele joined us to coordinate the IT development which will be very demanding for the next steps.

What is the SaveBiking app and what are the features for users?

SaveBiking can be expressed as an engaging marketing tool. Whenever a person travels using green transportation, the app works as a meeting point between brands and users, pushing them to stay healthy, ecological and socially active.

The app records the user’s paths and, based on his commitment to move around in a green way, suggests rewards offered by the partners. In addition, through gamification and touchpoint activities between brands, the app is able to engage users by making them part of a community with clear goals: reduce CO2 emissions, stay fit and promote sustainable mobility.

What are the advantages for users and partners?

SaveBiking’s brand partners are specifically chosen because they are interested in promoting a healthy and green lifestyle in the sports, tourism, food & beverage and insurance sectors.

Thanks to the data analysis of the mobility, users have the opportunity to get fantastic proposals from each brand adapted to their needs. 

SaveBiking will be able to identify the moment when a user needs a product or service or may need it in the future, and then suggest the purchase with an intuitive UX.

Tell us about your latest project.

During the last months, we have defined a strategy to promote insurances in the app. The goal is to suggest a proposal to our users collecting the data and the information through targeted surveys. The great advantage is that the users can subscribe to an insurance coverage proposal for the activity they normally do (such as cycling) and wants to pay an insurance price linked to his level of risk limited to a specific period. At the same time it is also an advantage for the insurance companies, which can reach customers who would not have subscribed to a traditional long-term proposal offering an instant and targeted digital service.

What is the growth strategy for the upcoming years?

We will shortly launch the final version of the app and our focus will be on growing the community. The target audience will be every person who uses sustainable urban transportations. We want the community to be thrilled by the proposals of the brands which share the same values: environmental sustainability, health and social impact. For this reason, the brands will play a crucial role in offering special conditions in line with their Corporate Social Responsibility.

What do you like about the STEP program and what are the advantages that you think could help any start-up?

STEP operates in an informal and flexible way, aiming to collaborate efficiently and offering the right support to startups without pre-established schemes.

Our goals became their goals too. Now, we are studying and developing a specific model to integrate companies from the energy sector through selected partners.
